The tales of the tattoo motifs
Golden Lady tattoo clothes
The ‘Golden Lady’ design comes from an American tattoo artist named Sailor Jerry. He lived in Hawaii in the mid-1900s and became famous for his tattoos. One of his most iconic pieces was the ‘Aloha Monkey’. The story behind it is pretty fun. Young Sailor Jerry joined the Navy as a U.S. Marine and sailed around Asia.
Before his discharge, like a lot of sailors, he brought back an exotic pet from Asia. He opened a tattoo shop in Hawaii’s Chinatown, where he spent his days with a monkey named Romeo. They used to mess with the more conservative locals by having the monkey flash its butt at people walking in. That playful monkey move inspired Jerry to create the famous ‘Aloha Monkey’ tattoo, which later influenced Very True Tattoo’s ‘Golden Lady’ design.
